APPlause! K-12 Performing Arts Series

APPlause! logo

Arts education and outreach programming at Appalachian State University is committed to connecting university arts resources to a diverse audience of community arts patrons, teachers and learners in the campus community, and in the public, private and home school network across our region. In doing so, the series strives to broaden and deepen arts experiences for audiences of all ages, while ensuring access to the arts for young audiences, building future audiences for the arts, and inspiring a love of learning through the arts.

Every season, affordable music, dance, film, and theatre events are offered to students and their teachers from K-12 classrooms across the region. Students experience everything from high-energy acrobatics and Appalachian music to international dance and literary classics brought to life through theatrical productions. In recent seasons, more than 8,000 students across our region have attended APPlause Series events.

The APPlause! Series’ trademark low ticket prices are made possible by generous donors who believe in supplying educators with arts programming that will spark creativity and inspire a love of learning.

Please direct any questions to Christy Chenausky, Director of Arts Education and Outreach, 828-262-6084, ext. 109 or chenauskyc@appstate.edu.

Reservations

Reserving space for your school is easy! Reserve early, performances fill up quickly.

The performances are part of the APPlause! Series, presented by Appalachian State University’s Office of Arts and Cultural Programs. Featuring local, regional and world-renowned professional artists, the mission of the program is to share university arts resources with the public, private and home school network across our region. Study guide materials connect every performance to the classroom curriculum.

With the help of the university’s College Access Partnership, school groups can enjoy lunch in an on-campus dining facility, take a campus tour, or observe a demonstration by an App State professor.

Performance length

Most APPlause! K-12 Performing Arts Series performances are approximately 60 minutes in length. Occasionally, a performance will run longer than an hour – this will be noted in advance. Please check the details on each performance description for information on specific shows.

Event arrival procedures

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of a performance. This will allow adequate time to find your seat and make those last minute trips to the restrooms! Our performances will start on time and once a show has begun, your group will not be seated until there is a break in the action on stage.

Cost of admission

The costs associated with admission are $1, $3 and $5, depending on group size and/or event. The same admission is charged for adults and children. If your group chooses an additional activity on campus which incurs expenses, or if your group is traveling by car and parks in the parking deck, you will be charged separately for those ancillary expenses. Groups of fewer than ten people must prepay $5 per seat for every performance. Parking passes are available for purchase on the morning of the performance. Please call 828-262-6084, ext. 109 for more information.

Confirmation and payment policies

Once your online reservation has been submitted, the main contact from your school will receive an email confirming receipt of request. This will serve as a reservation form.

The main contact will receive an email a few weeks prior to the performance with details concerning the day of the event and with a link to the study guide.

Immediately following the performance, the main contact will be asked to provide exact numbers of students, school staff and chaperones in attendance. An invoice reflecting the actual number in attendance will be sent to the main contact immediately following each performance.

The main contact is responsible for forwarding this paperwork to the school’s finance office for processing. These are both due no later than the due date listed on the invoice. Payment can be made with check or credit card (Visa or MasterCard).

Groups of fewer than ten people must prepay $5 per seat for every performance. Parking passes are available for purchase on the morning of the performance. Please call 828-262-6084, ext. 109 for more information.
