Resounding Resistance, Folk-Infused Classical Music, 1937-1945

Part 1: Listening Workshop
sponsored by North Carolina Humanities
The workshop celebrates the 80th anniversary of Bartók’s “Asheville Concerto.” Appalachian State’s Dr. Darci Gardner and Jacob Kopcienski will give TED-style talks on the piece. Then, Teddy Robi and Mimi Solomon, of UNC Chapel Hill’s Department of Music, will demonstrate their interpretations of it.

Part 2: Concert
sponsored by Watauga Arts Council
During this free public concert, North Carolina Symphony pianists Colin Hartnett and Rajesh Prasad will join Robie and Solomon to perform Bartók’s famous “Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion” and a special encore piece.
